A staple book that seems to get more attention in the summer at our house is The Book of Cards for Kids by Gail MacColl.

This book, which I highly recommend,  is your guide to every card game you can imagine, from the classics like Gin and Crazy Eights to the more obscure and fun Smudge, Frogs in the Pond, and my kid’s favorite, Begger My Neighbor.

We keep the book in our camping game basket with a couple of decks of cards. Directions are easy to  read for kids 7 and up, and its variety can keep the family entertained without any batteries, high-speed Internet connection, or television.
