Reading Together: Swindle
My ten-year-old and my husband are currently reading Swindle
by Gordan Korman. Logan reviews this as ” an awesome book,” and “the best book I’ve ever read.”
The swindle: Griffin Bing finds a rare Babe Ruth baseball card, but doesn’t realize just how rare…and is quickly duped into selling it to ruthless card-shop owner. Griffin enlists a crew of friends old and new into helping him steal back the card that he feels is rightfully his.
Fear not; while the kids are, in fact, plotting illegal activity, I read ahead and learned that there are positive lessons to be learned.

We read “together” in a number of different ways. My son is tackling this book with dad by reading a few pages on his own out loud, then handing the book over to dad, who reads a few pages. (I actually started reading the book with Logan, but a sick baby put us off schedule. Dad filled in for what was supposed to be a few days, and ended up wanting to finish the story).
We try to read every night, but there are nights that are just too hectic and reading must be shelved for a day. We usually spend at least 30 minutes together on a book, but most of the time, the half-hour stretches further as we become interested in the story.
