Prepare for Summer Reading
When my middle child was in kindergarten, I stumbled upon an excellent and inexpensive resource for home study of reading and writing that we were able to put to work in the summer months. You may want to do the same.
Starfall Education, a home-education supplier, sells Reading and Writing Journals and a set of Cut Up and Take Home Books, for $1.95 each.

My son LOVED the cut-up books and quickly learned to read them long before first grade began. They included five booklets of mini-artist bios, some of which we also read an supplemented with videos and books from the library.
He also did a Reading and Writing Journal page each day, and I found I had to order the second-level set immediately.
